Summary or Abstract : This study investigated whether the incidence of one or two parental death(s) in childhood, the age of loss (0-4, 5-9, 10-14), the experience of therapy, and poorly or well facilitated mourning had a later effect on adult death anxiety, relationships, achievement and personality characteristics. Subjects were adults with one or both parents' death(s) before the age of 15 who had been in therapy (N = 44), similar adults who had not been in therapy (N = 53), and control subjects who were raised in intact families (N = 37). Death anxiety was assessed by the Death Anxiety Scale, Word Association Test, and verbal and written questions. The Personality Research Form E, Jackson Personality Inventory, and verbal written questions were used to study relationship and achievement functioning as well as personality characteristics. Structured interview data was also analyzed..
