Summary or Abstract : The major purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between communication style variables (friendly, impression leaving, relaxed, contentious, attentive, precise, animated, dramatic, open, and dominant) and personality characteristics (extraversion, introversion, sensing, intuition, thinking, feeling, judging, and perceiving). The study also sought to investigate whether there were any significant differences in managers' personality types and their communication styles. An exploratory approach was used, utilizing a convenience sample of 101 managers consisting of 61 males and 40 females. The participants were from twenty-eight organizations across five states (New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, Colorado), and, Washington, D.C. These organizations were grouped into four major categories: Private sector corporations, public sector institutions and agencies, educational and learning institutions, and international development organizations. The participants', whose ages ranged from 20-70 years, varied in their stages of professional development from junior levels to more senior levels..
