Summary or Abstract : This paper is a single-case study of the life of Dodge Morgan, who in 1986 completed a nonstop, solo circumnavigation of the globe, shattering the world's record. The goal of this personological investigation is to produce a theoretically-informed psychobiography based on both qualitative and quantitative data. Assessment data, both objective and projective, will be synthesized with biographical and autobiographical information. Morgan's personality characteristics will be analyzed in the framework of the Five-Factor Model and understood in the context of narrative theory, specifically McAdams' Life-Story Model of adult development. Interpretations arising from these perspectives, both complementary and contradictory, will be explained through the perspective of second-order consistency. The myth of the hero will provide the appropriate structural framework for the application of theory to life history.
