Summary or Abstract : Career development researchers have begun to recognize the powerful evidence supporting the notion that work is an important domain in an individual's life and may be intertwined with various aspects of physical, emotional, and mental health (Krumboltz, 1993). One dimension of the relationship between work and well-being may stem from the extent to which one encounters difficulties in the process of career development. According to Super (1957), the more capable an individual is to negotiate the tasks of career development (i.e., vocational maturity), the more satisfied he or she will be in the career domain, as well as in other dimensions of their lives, such as health and well-being. The present research focuses on this interface between career development and mental health in 100 college men and women who were currently in the exploratory stage of career development. It was hypothesized that individuals with high levels of vocational maturity will have higher levels of subjective well-being, while those with low levels of vocational maturity will have lower levels of subjective well-being; the results supported this hypothesis. Post hoc analysis revealed that career planning may be the aspect of vocational maturity most responsible for the relationship between vocational maturity and well-being..
