Summary or Abstract : The purpose of the quantitative inquiry was to examine the relationship between the career-decidedness and identity status of college-aged youth. Also in question was the existence of any further relationships between these two constructs and the related variables of depression, gender, and self-esteem. Four surveys were completed by 160 participants currently enrolled in college classes: The Career Decision Scale (CDS), Beck's Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and the Ego Identity Process Questionnaire (EIPQ). These instruments gave us measurements of participant's self-rated reports on the variables in question. First, a MANOVA was conducted to determine if there was a relationship between career decidedness and identity status and gender. Next, an ANOVA was performed on the data. Parametric statistical tests were used to investigate possible differences between gender, self-esteem and levels of depression in college-aged students, as they related to career decidedness and identity status. Individual t tests were computed next to further define any pairwise relationships between members of different identity status categories. Finally, a Chi-square analysis was employed to examine gender and identity status relationships. Results, limitations, implications and recommendations of the study are discussed..
