Summary or Abstract : This is a qualitative and exploratory study of the occupational health and safety policy regime of Hong Kong. The purposes of the study are to identify the historical forces and to explore the nature/features of occupational health and safety policy regime of Hong Kong as well as to account for the performance of occupational health and safety of Hong Kong. The theoretical framework of the study is stemmed from the regime theory of Pempel, the welfare regime theory of Esping-Andersen and Gough, both derived from political economic theories. In this study, a single-case (embedded) case design is selected. This is a historical and case study. The single case unit of analysis is the occupational health and safety policy regime of Hong Kong at large whereas the embedded case unit of analysis is the health and safety policy regime of construction industry. This case study covers the period between the end of World War II and 1997, when Hong Kong ended its colonial era..
