Summary or Abstract : Professionals within the disciplines of Christian psychology, pastoral counseling, and spiritual direction provide treatment to clients who experience God image difficulties. While there is a respectable amount of literature on the understanding of God image, little is known about effective treatment for God image-related problems. How often are clients who experience these problems presenting for treatment and what interventions are being utilized in treating God image difficulties? A national sample of 111 participants (29 Christian psychologists, 40 pastoral counselors, and 43 spiritual directors) was recruited to complete an Interdisciplinary God Image Survey (IGIS) to address such questions. Practitioners from each discipline endorsed the belief that interdisciplinary collaboration is important and offers discipline-specific strengths that could positively impact "soul care." While Christian psychologists reported seeing a higher number of clients who present with God image-related problems, spiritual directors reported that a higher percentage of their clients are experiencing such problems. All participants indicated that nearly half of their clients experience problems with their God image. A majority of practitioners reported witnessing positive God image change at a high rate and shared resources and interventions that they utilize in treatment. Psychologists revealed a greater tendency to lead their clients toward an experience of what they believe to be core truths about God more so than do pastoral counselors and spiritual directors. The need for future research on God image treatment and for improved interdisciplinary collaboration is discussed..
