Summary or Abstract : This qualitative study focused on women's experiences of transformative travel with the intention of understanding the ways in which women experience major changes in their lives as a result of a travel experience. An additional focus was how these kinds of experiences may relate to or enhance the process of psychotherapy with women.Data were collected from semi-structured interviews with six women who reported life-changing experiences as the result of a travel experience. Seven themes emerged from the interviews; (a) novelty and authenticity; (b) change or confirmation of values and beliefs; (c) freedom from role expectations; (d) universal connection and group affiliation; (e) increased appreciation; (f) travel with a purpose; and (g) travel as a catalyst for change. Clinical implications suggest similarities between travel and therapy, with possible ways to utilize travel in therapy. Special considerations are given for girls and women to utilize travel as a means to help facilitate wellness and development, including the use of travel as a "resistance" strategy..
