Summary or Abstract : For this ex facto investigation data gathered from 84 elementary-level educators in one suburban western Washington State school district was analyzed using correlational methods to assess the relationship between their personal and professional beliefs about diversity. The relationship between personal and professional beliefs and dimensions of diversity: (a) race, (b) gender, (c) social class, (d) ability, (e) language/immigration, (f) sexual orientation, (g) religion, and (h) multicultural education were studied. Additionally, the relationship between personal and professional beliefs about diversity and the number of multicultural courses and cross-cultural experiences were explored to determine their predictive value for personal and professional beliefs.Scores that educators receive on dimensions of diversity: race, gender, social class, ability, language/immigration, sexual orientation, and multicultural education were be evaluated. Results were compared with earlier studies using the Educators' Beliefs About Diversity (EBAD) scales (Pohan & Aguilar, 1999) as well as related studies related to dual attitudes and the influence of direct and indirect experience on beliefs (Pohan, 1994; Taylor, 1999; Yin, 2000; Cardona, 2005). Outcomes from this study will provide information for use in pre-service and in-service training for the support of academic success for multicultural students in the K-12 schools..
