Summary or Abstract : The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that motivate female students to continue in their graduate degree programs to completion. Findings from quantitative data collected through an online survey instrument indicated that female students determined to continue in their graduate programs were intrinsically motivated to do so. Additionally, focus group interview sessions were used to collect qualitative data on the levels of support students received while pursuing their graduate degrees. This support was categorized into social support systems and institutional support systems. Findings in the research suggest that female students feel encouraged by the social support provided from family and friends.
