Summary or Abstract : The purpose of this study was to examine which of the critical thinking activities being implemented at a large suburban community college on the East Coast of the United States are ones that professors find to be effective in helping students to best understand the course content and to develop critical thinking skills in general. This study utilized a content analysis of course syllabi in order to identify interview candidates based on themes found within the syllabi about the implementation of critical thinking strategies and activities used in education courses at the aforementioned community college. This study then utilized interviews for case study research. It questioned specific education department professors about the critical thinking strategies and activities they use in their courses, as well as how they perceived the effectiveness of the activities in helping students to better understand the course content and to relate to critical thinking as a skill. Based on questions that arose from the interview data, the researcher held focus groups with selected professors to validate findings. The results of this study will assist the college in determining which activities professors deem as effective. Recommendations for further research conclude this research study..
