Summary or Abstract : A longitudinal study on 17 former students of a Hawai'i based Alternative Learning Program (ALP) was conducted to learn more about the long-term impact of Alternative Learning Programs' on students who were once considered at risk of failing high school. This study was designed to examine the outcomes of specific components of ALPs, particularly of the Lanakila Learning Center (LLC), used to address the challenges of at-risk youth. Components targeted were education, personal development (e.g., sociability, health and wellness, and stress management), cultural identity, career development, and family environment. Also explored in this report were participants' perception of LLC, their experiences with LLC, ways the program helped participants the most, and suggestions for improvement. The study's results showed most participants reported high rates of success and satisfaction in most elements examined and reported being satisfied with themselves and the direction of their lives. All participants rated their experience at LLC with the highest survey score and many viewed LLC as a significant contributor to their success. The findings will assist in the continued development and support of ALPs serving at-risk youth..
