Summary or Abstract : This case study used a survey to identify factors (i.e., experiences, career paths, and barriers) that influence career advancement of Black American women administrators in higher education. The purpose of the study was to answer research questions relative to previously documented experiences, career paths, and barriers perceived by Black American women administrators given the ongoing problem of under-representation in senior-level administrative positions. The researcher found that the career advancement professional experiences and career paths of Black American women administrators of the Association of Black American Women in Higher Education were no different from those previously documented in extant literature and that they too perceived barriers to being selected to serve as administrators in higher education. The researcher recommends that further studies be conducted for a more in-depth understanding of the reasons why the factors identified are influencing the career advancement of senior-level Black American women administrators..
