Summary or Abstract : Substance abuse among Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), when compared to other nurse specialties is alarmingly high. The educational curriculum of current nurse anesthesia programs nationwide is mandated to present substance abuse education, but currently there is no mandated core curriculum to follow. Thus each program can present the topic of substance abuse in a variety of different methods. The purpose of this research is to provide a descriptive study of methods and efficacy of current substance abuse educational material presented to current junior and senior Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs).This research demonstrates the need for a more definitive substance abuse curriculum for current and future nurse anesthesia programs. The key to the future in regards to safety of the patients as well as the health and safety of anesthesia practitioners depends on improving the knowledge and awareness of substance abuse among anesthesia practitioners..
