Summary or Abstract : The objectives of this manual are to increase awareness and knowledge of learning disabilities among juvenile justice system teachers who work with diagnosed or undiagnosed learning-disabled youth. The manual is designed to educate teachers on terminology, as well as on laws and regulations pertaining to education of youth with learning disabilities. It provides literature linking learning disabilities with delinquency and introduces tools that will help teachers better identify youth with suspected learning disabilities. Utilizing special and targeted educational techniques are key to a successful approach in educating youth with a learning disability; these techniques are presented in this manual. Finally, this manual provides a comprehensive resource list including vocational opportunities and Internet sources to help teachers better educate this special-needs population and prepare them for a more successful and productive future..
